The Answer To Finding True Depth In Tidal Waters Patent Pending
The Answer To Finding The True Depth In Tidal Waters
It is widely known there are two types of boater, those that have gone a ground and those that will…
A great way to ruin an afternoon of fun is by going a ground; most of the time, depth gauges do not register if the water is murky due to the turbidity caused by prop wash or it is simply too shallow…
Unlike anything on the market, the DepthFinder™ can dramatically reduce the opportunity of damaging a hull, propeller and/or a motor by means of this highly visual depth measurement tool perfect for shallow tidal waters and/or areas of the world where extreme tides are prevalent.
Most importantly, the DepthFinder™ must be installed properly so the boater can be confident that the actual depth of water is fixed.
- The DepthFinder™ will always represent an accurate measure of depth regardless of the state of tide.
- If the measurement on the rule does not correlate to the actual depth at the point to where it is installed, the design concept is useless.
Best recommendation is to attach the DepthFinder™ to a fixed pier and/or a stationary marker such a marker piling to reduce or eliminate any long-term variation of measurement.
The concept of the DepthFinder™ is opposite to that of a bridge height marker as seen in the photo.
The DepthFinder™ numbers run up instead of down.
Bridge Marker – 16, 14, 12, etc.
DepthFinder – 3, 4, 5, 6, etc.
Bridge markers like this are commonly found in tidal waters along the (ICW) Intracoastal Waterway.
The DepthFinder™ will be made from a PVC Polymer that will resist barnacle buildup and growth such as the example in the photo on the left, whereby metal was used to make the sign/marker.
- Markers like this are commonly found in tidal waters all over the USA such as the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW)
The concept of the DepthFinder™ is ingenious because it will save boaters in a multitude of different scenarios.
- It can easily be construed that every piling marker commonly found in tidal waters such as the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) should have a DepthFinder™ installed to benefit all boaters commercial, private and pleasure.
Design Materials
The DepthFinder™ is produced from a unique PVC polymer sheet that is UV Resistant and extremely rigid offering a long life making it incredibly cost effective.
- This PVC polymer material also resists barnacle growth.
- The PVC polymer sheet is printed with large visual fonts easily viewed at distances up to 200’ with normal 20/20 sight.
- The contrasting ink is UV resistant with a reflective barrier
- The fonts will be a color that is reflective light at night
Benefits
The earth’s average height variation in sea level from tides is about three (3) feet.
- The Bay of Fundy sits between the Canadian Provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, home to the world largest tidal variations; water levels near Wolfville, (Minas Basin) Nova Scotia, tides can range as much as 53 feet (16 meters) higher than at low tide.
- The DepthFinder™ can be customized to accommodate any area of the world where excessive tidal surges are a daily event.
- DepthFinder™
The standard measurements are as follows:
- Length: 4’ (48”) and 8’ (96”)
- Width: 8” – This will accommodate any common piling diameter
- Letter height is 6” to accommodate sight distances up to 200’ feet
